Our FERPA-Aligned Approach

Parent Life 365 is designed to support FERPA-aligned student privacy practices. We are not an official FERPA-certified platform, but every architectural decision is made with FERPA principles as a guiding framework.
Student education records accessible through Parent Life 365 are made available only to parents, guardians, and authorized school staff — consistent with FERPA-aligned access principles.
We do not share or disclose student education records to third parties except as required to operate the platform or as required by law.
Parent Life 365 acts as a school service provider operating under the direction and authority of the school or district — not as an independent data controller over student records.

School-Controlled Access Model

Schools and districts retain ownership and control of all student data processed through Parent Life 365.
School administrators control which parents and staff can access which student records.
Parent access is limited to their own linked children's records — no parent can view another family's student data.
Teachers can only access students in their assigned classes or groups.
Counselors and support staff can only access students within their assigned caseload.
District administrators can only access data within their assigned district boundaries.

Role-Based Permission Controls

Every user in Parent Life 365 has a defined, scoped role. Access rules are enforced at the database level — not just the interface.
Role assignments are managed by school or district administrators and cannot be self-granted.
All data access by platform staff is audit-logged and limited to support, security, and legal compliance purposes.
Substitute teachers, coaches, and counselors have time-limited, scope-limited access appropriate to their function.

Student Data Protections

Student data is used only to operate the school platform. It is never used for advertising, behavioral profiling, or sold to third parties.
Student accounts for children under 13 are created and managed by their school and linked to verified parent accounts.
Children under 13 do not independently register for or create accounts.
No behavioral data is collected or shared with marketers or data brokers.
Profile data is limited to what is necessary to provide school communication and management features.

Data Deletion & Retention

Parents may request deletion of their personal data at any time by contacting jjdunbar20@gmail.com.
Student record deletion requests are processed in coordination with the school or district, as schools control student data under FERPA principles.
When a school or district terminates their use of Parent Life 365, student data is deleted per our data retention policy.
We do not retain student data beyond the period necessary to fulfill the platform's purpose, unless required by law.
